SCOTTSDALE, AZ — Robert Fisher has not been caught, but after almost 20 years, the FBI removed him from its "Ten Most Wanted Fugitives" list. Fisher was put on the list in 2002, wanted on suspicion of three counts of first-degree murder for the slayings of his wife and two children in 2001. He's also accused of blowing up their Scottsdale home, according to a news release from the Phoenix FBI branch. The FBI is dropping Fisher from the list, even though he hasn't been caught, because he doesn't fit the agency's criteria to stay on it. One of the purposes of the list is to garner media attention in the hopes of getting tips from the public to help catch suspected criminals. But extensive media coverage of the Fisher slayings over the past 20 years has not helped to unearth his location or resulted in any confirmed sightings of Fisher, FBI officials said. So the FBI decided that keeping him on the list, "is not expected to result in any additional information that would lead to his capture." The FBI also places people on its Ten Most Wanted list because it believes they pose a continued danger to the community, but the agency said there is no evidence that Fisher has committed any crimes since his disappearance. Fisher will only be the 11th person removed from the "10 Most Wanted" list since 1950 without without having died, been arrested or had charges against them dropped. The FBI promised to continue its investigation into the slayings, regardless of Fisher's status on the list.
