PHOENIX, AZ — Phoenicians living in several city school districts voted Tuesday on whether to allow their schools to collect taxes beyond their spending limits. Almost all district voters, according to unofficial results released by the county, leaned toward allowing their schools to start or continue to collect taxes beyond their spending limits. As of Wednesday evening, when Maricopa County released updated results for Tuesday's election, there were still around 31,000 ballots left to be counted. The county planned to release more results Thursday evening. Eight school districts in the city asked voters to continue revenue limit overrides for maintenance and operations or other needs. Three districts asked voters to approve bonds for things like renovations and purchase of new equipment. The only district in the city of Phoenix where voters leaned toward not approving a bond request was Cave Creek Unified. Arizona requires that school districts gain voter approval before exceeding their state-imposed budget limits. Districts must also get the OK from voters to sell bonds to fund large purchases or projects. Below are unofficial vote totals as updated Wednesday evening by the Maricopa County Clerk's Office.
