Description
VESTAVIA HILLS, AL — A program started in 2020 allowing Vestavia Hills police officers to take their patrol vehicles home with them has been a success. In fact, the VHPD aims for all of its officers to have their own police vehicle to take home, according to a Vestavia Voice report.
Capt. Shane Ware told the Vestavia Voice that the program has helped in several ways, which include improving the ability to call officers in for severe weather and other emergencies. As well, the policy helps residents in neighborhoods where police officers live feel safer, Ware said.
Officials estimate that by the end of 2022, two-thirds of the Vestavia Hills Police Department will have their own patrol vehicles.
