Tuscaloosa County Reallocates Over $4M For Road & Bridge Work

TUSCALOOSA, AL — The Tuscaloosa County Commission on Wednesday unanimously approved a measure that will see the reallocation of Simplified Sellers Use Tax (SSUT) funding to now be put exclusively toward maintaining the county's roads and bridges. Click here to subscribe to our free Tuscaloosa Daily newsletter and breaking news alerts The funding is part of the county's General Fund budget, but will now be repositioned as the county hopes to improve its roads and ultimately reduce the number of gravel and dirt roads across the county — another topic discussed during Wednesday's regular meeting. Probate Judge Rob Robertson confirmed to Patch that roughly $4.18 million was the approximate total received by the county via SSUT during the last fiscal year. The total for the current fiscal year has yet to be determined. In other Commission business ... The following individuals were reappointed to board seats: District 1 Commissioner Stan Acker to the Tuscaloosa Metro Animal Shelter Board; Gary Falls to the Tuscaloosa County Park and Recreation Authority Board; Blanche Gunter to the Tuscaloosa Public Library Board and Steve Swofford to the Tuscaloosa County Port Authority Board. The Commission unanimously approved a measure codifying and putting into writing a policy that would allow retire county employees the right to keep their dependents on their health and dental insurance.
