NORTHPORT, AL — Police have released additional details following a single-vehicle crash in Northport Tuesday afternoon that left a Tuscaloosa County High School student dead and two others injured. Click here to subscribe to our free Tuscaloosa Daily newsletter and breaking news alerts The Northport Police Department said in a release on Wednesday that officers and NorthStar paramedics responded to the crash at 3:21 p.m. on Rose Boulevard, just south of the Highway 171 overpass and near Eugenia Faucett Drive. NPD says a 2007 Ford Escape carrying three teenagers left the roadway and struck a tree. The driver of the SUV, a 17-year-old female Tuscaloosa County High School student, was pronounced dead at the scene. Family has confirmed to Patch that the student killed was TCHS senior Kylee Whitson, who was a member of the school's marching band. ALSO: GoFundMe Launched For TCHS Student Killed In Rose Boulevard Crash The two passengers, TCHS students ages 15 and 16, were transported to DCH Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. The cause of the wreck remains under investigation by NPD's Accident Reconstruction Team. The Tuscaloosa County School System said in a statement to Patch on Wednesday that additional counselors and social workers are on the TCHS campus today to provide grief counseling and support to students, faculty, and staff. "Additional staff will remain on the campus as needed, to continue providing support to the TCHS community," the school system said.
