Seeking advice on old mortar / masonry / plaster

Hoping someone in the community could answer a couple of questions 7 days ago, a mortar / stucco mix was applied to old exterior brick wall, and strong fumes from the mix have been coming through the plaster walls and into the living space. Occupants are experiencing ENT irritation from cement vapors. How is this happening? How long before it improves? Can anything be done to block vapors from coming in? Thank you
