Amor shares her story as an African-American woman of color and as a nation’s story of the many unsung and underrepresented women who have paved the way for her. This playwright injects the tale of famous musical artists as well as some monumental speeches that changed the trajectory for the African-American women throughout history. Regal The American Black Woman is a tribute to the lives and the heroism of women of color. This screenplay depicts the story of women who rose above slavery, poverty, rape, torture, and imprisonment to become one of the most resilient and celebrated herons throughout history. Paula who portrays “Regal” is a resilient, melodic, and poet who shares her musical journey of heroism and tribal contribution. One will take pleasure in this slow fast-paced story of women throughout the 1700’s to the vibrant 21st century. Composer Paula R. Amor a African American writer evokes and summons the queens of Africa and her ancestors to assist with this magical production. This one woman show portrays the life of African American women as slaves, abolitionists, activists, jazz singers, politicians, and matriarchs in America during the 17th century until now. The script does not dwell on the sensationalism of slavery as it pertained to the black woman but chooses, rather, to celebrate the whole woman and her royal lineage as Queen.
