The Redwoods was founded in 1972 and operates as a stand-alone care community. POSITION SUMMARYAs a member of the Program Department, the Garden Program Coordinator oversees the Scott Garden and all garden related activities, maintaining an active gardening program for the residents. While the majority of garden programs will occur in the garden, the Garden Coordinator is also responsible for creating indoor programming for the Health Care Center, supporting landscaping services for The Redwoods' grounds, and other related duties. This position requires an ability to work collaboratively with resident gardeners to plan activities and events, engage new gardeners and volunteers, and to plan and maintain the Robert Sinclair Scott Garden as a wellness resource for residents of The Redwoods. The Garden Program Coordinator will be responsible for general upkeep and appearance of the garden, the orchard, and various gardening tools and equipment. The successful candidate will also manage garden volunteers, chair a Garden Committee, and manage a small budget with input from resident garden committee members and oversight from the Director of Programs. Various other duties and responsibilities as assigned. QUALIFICATIONSKnowledge: Specialized knowledge of organic vegetable and flower gardening, composting, vermiculture, integrated pest management, and fruit treesPrior experience working with seniors preferred, including an understanding of therapeutic methods applied to gardening activities for the frail elderly.Skills: Organizational skills to plan, implement, and evaluate gardening activities for elderly residentsVerbal communication and personal skills required to successfully interact with and engage residents, guests and garden volunteers.Ability to work independently while functioning as part of a teamBasic computer skillsEducation and experience: Master Garden certificate or equivalent horticulture background preferredExperience as a local gardener requiredMust have your own transportation for purchasing garden supplies Physical RequirementsAble to do gardening activities such as lifting (up to 50 pounds), raking, hauling, weeding, and shovelingCOVID-19 vaccination or medical or religious waiver required The Redwoods is an EOE employer PI152470671
