Description

The School Building Committee would like to share this most recent communication and clarification from the MSBA... In response to your inquiry below, I am pleased to report that the MSBA Board of Directors has voted to approve the Dale Street Elementary School Project in the Town of Medfield to replace the existing Dale Street Elementary School with a new facility on the Wheelock Elementary School site (emphasis added). The Board approved an Estimated Maximum Total Facilities Grant of $19,165,518, and, in the event that the MSBA determines that any Owner's and/or Construction Contingency Expenditures are eligible for reimbursement, the Maximum Total Facilities Grant for the Dale Street Elementary School Project may increase to as much as $19,599,995. In regard to your question below which reads, in part, "that the Town could vote NO on Sunday and revise the project to locate a new school at the current Dale Street campus, approximately two miles away, while also remaining in the current MSBA process without filing a new Statement of Interest.", I offer the following: If the town meeting and/or debt exclusion vote were to fail, the District would be required to submit a letter to the MSBA within ten days in accordance with the MSBA's failed vote policy. If the District determines that a different project other than what was approved by the Board, such as relocating the proposed school to a site different from the one proposed by the District, is the preferred direction, the District will have to submit a new Statement of Interest and await a second invitation from the MSBA Board to enter the Eligibility Period phase of the MSBA's process. If the MSBA Board of Directors were to issue such a second invitation, the MSBA would require the District to: · start the process anew, with new selection processes for an owner's project manager and designer as well as a new feasibility study; and, · perform a new feasibility study and schematic design for the Dale Street Elementary School without financial participation from the MSBA for those phases of work. The MSBA looks forward to our continued collaboration. Sincerely,John K. McCarthyExecutive Director Mary Pichetti Director of Capital Planning
