YONKERS, NY — Police say the stabbing victims discovered overnight in a Yonkers home were mother and daughter. Yonkers Police Commissioner John Mueller said officers from the 2nd Precinct arrived at the house on Shipman Avenue as part of a "welfare check" on Monday afternoon. A concerned friend told police the daughter who lived at the address had not been seen since Friday. No one at the house answered when police arrived. Officers entered the house after noticing a broken window. The bodies of two women were found inside the home. Both women had been stabbed, according to police officials. "The right description of the scene is horrific. Horrific," Mueller said on Tuesday morning. "And our hearts go out to the families...In the Yonkers Police Department, we are very, very victim-centric and we want to make sure that we give them time, for us to notify them, and show them respect and concern and extend our real, sincere condolences to the family and friends." Mueller said that the violence "appears to be an isolated incident" and that the community should not be worried for their own safety. The 70-year-old mother and 38-year-old daughter owned and lived together in the home where the grisly scene was discovered. One of the victims worked for Yonkers Public Schools, police said. Police officials said there were a lot of items and property in and around the house. Investigators described the clutter as "not quite hoarding," but said that the sheer amount of items that crime scene units need to process will complicate the investigation. Mueller said that although it is early in the investigation, there are already "multiple leads" in the case.
