NAUGATUCK, CT — While Democratic Mayor Pete Hess, who ran unopposed, won a fourth term, Republicans solidified power Tuesday by winning a majority of Burgess seats and Board of Education posts, reported Citizen's News. For Burgess, the unofficial winning candidates were (in bold): Republicans - Robert Neth; Jan J. Mizeski; Dorothy Neth-Kunin; Meghan Smith; George A. Murdry V; and Michael Bronko Democrats - Charles P. Marenghi; Rocky Vitale; Fran Dambowsky; James A. Higgins; Francis Santana; and Shagufta Zahid On the Board of Education, the unofficial winning candidates were (in bold): Republicans - Diana V. Malone; Alicia Makowski; Aaron McCool; Jeffrey Like; Marilyn O'Donnell Democrats - Ethel S. Grant; Jason "Jay" Celozzi; Cara Martini Munro; James M. Scully; Karen Vassell-Campbell Independent (write-in candidate) - Jolee Dinho-Guerreiro "Republicans sweep the board!!" the Naugatuck Republican Town Committee wrote on Facebook. "Congratulations to all our Republican candidates who prevailed tonight! Now it's time to get to work! #GoGOP #republicans" Also essentially unopposed were the three candidates for the Planning Commission — Democrats Raymond Krzykowski and Gary Hughes, and Republican Richard O'Donnell — because voters were asked to cast ballots for up to three. For Bailiffs, the Democratic candidates were: Michael Kuczenski; Sally Cyr; Michael Allison; and Floyd Traver. They were opposed by the Republicans, Steven Loban; Daniel J. Renzoni; Seth Bronko; and Kristie Pistarelli. On the Zoning Commission, Democrats Tom Kiernan and Wayne M. Malicki ran against Republicans Attila "AJ" Bordas and Eileen Bronko. For the position of Tax Collector, Democrat Jim Goggin, the incumbent, sought re-election versus Republican Helen Northrup.
