Woman, 61, Robbed Of Purse In Parking Lot: Hamden Police

HAMDEN, CT — A 61-year-old woman was robbed of her purse in the Hamden Plaza parking lot at 2100 Dixwell Ave. on Monday night, according to police. The robbery happened around 5 p.m. when the woman was knocked to the ground from behind and had her purse forcibly taken from her, according to Detective Sean J. Dolan. Dolan said the woman sustained injuries to her "lower and upper extremities from the attack." The suspect was described as a black male, around 16-17 years old, 5 feet, 8-inches to 5-feet, 10 inches tall with a thin build, low-cut hair (shaved on the sides) who was wearing black pants and a black-hooded sweatshirt, according to Dolan. He left in a newer model, black car that was followed by a newer model, white car, Dolan said. Both vehicles fled from the shopping plaza toward the Spring Glen neighborhood, according to Dolan. Dolan said a good Samaritan found some of the victim's discarded personal belongings. Police are continuing to investigate the robbery, and any witnesses or anyone with surveillance images of possible suspect vehicles are asked to contact Detective Mark Sheppard at 203-230-4047.
