SUMMIT, NJ — The polls in the New Jersey elections have closed. As of 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, with 72 percent of districts reporting, the 2nd Ward Summit Common Council race was close, and the other candidates were separated by significant margins.

In Summit, Democrat Beth Little is running for re-election to her council-at-large seat. She faced a challenge from Republican Steven Spurr.
Democrat Andy Minegar filed to run for a 1st Ward seat. During the June primary, former Summit Police Chief Robert Weck missed the deadline to file to run for that seat as a Republican, but led a write-in campaign in order to face Minegar. The two were in a close race Tuesday night.
Incumbent Democrat Greg Vartan faces Republican David Fosgate for the 2nd Ward seat. And Republican Lisa Allen filed to keep her 2nd Ward seat.
The tallies on Tuesday night at 10:30 p.m. were:

The Summit Common Council has seven seats: three seats for each of two wards, and one "at large" seat.
Each ward seat carries a three-year term; the at-large seat is two years.
