Press release from Irving-Las Colinas Chamber of Commerce:
11 October 2021
Every minute, 20 people are physically abused by an intimate partner, according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Domestic violence is a universal silent crime affecting all people, regardless of race, age, sexual orientation, religion, nationality or socio-economic status.
In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the City of Irving Family Advocacy Center (FAC) hosted a Toro Nagashi ceremony, which floats lit lanterns on the water in remembrance of those who have suffered atrocities.
The FAC and Irving Police Department invite residents, Irving businesses and the surrounding community to show their support for victims and survivors with purple throughout the month. Participants can use purple string lights or porch lights, or wear purple ribbon or attire.
