Brookfield 2021 Elections: Carr Defeats Dunn for First Selectman

BROOKFIELD, CT — Republican Tara Carr has denied incumbent Democrat Steve Dunn a fourth term as first selectman. The state's Republican Party announced the preliminary results of the race on social media shortly after 10 p.m. Tuesday. In other contests, for selectman, the Democrats fielded three-term incumbent Sue Slater, and the Republicans, Harry Shaker. Voters selected four candidates for full-term openings on the Board of Finance. Republicans endorsed Amelia Malanaphy, Andrew Koehm, Glenn Rooney and Daniel Devorsetz. The choices offered by the Democrats are Naheed Quaisar, Alan Walp, Mary Cappiello and Eileen Koch. Two two-year vacancies on the Finance Board will also be filled following Tuesday's vote count. John Temple and Ricky Ramos are on the ballot for the Democrats, and the Republicans are presenting Brianna Ruocco and Thomas D'Avanzo. Residents voted for three candidates to fill openings on the Board of Education. The choices were Republicans Sharon Butow, Linda Arment and Joy Greenstein; and Democrats Emma Schweder, Rosa Fernandes and Bunny Tessier. The top two getters of one party, and the top vote getter of the remaining party will get seats on the BoE. For the open slot on the Board of Assessment Appeals, voters chose between Democrat Julie Blick and Republican Jeffrey Bronn. Brookfield voters chose three candidates for the Planning Commission from a field of six, including Democrats Marc Lowengart, Scott Dale and Jeffrey Kass; and Republicans Linda Taylor, John Mara and Michael Del Valle. Democrats Jennifer Kraemer, Phoebe Holmes and Francis Kwok are vying with Republicans Gary Goetz, Anne Vogel and Darryel Pratt for three full-term Zoning Commission positions. There is also one two-year term position open for which Republican Bishendra Komar and Democrat Mike Lucia are competing. Finally, voters chose three new members of the Zoning Board of Appeals froom a field that included Republicans Karl Hinger, Alan Donnelly and Janet LaForgia; and Democrats Louise Trojanowski-Marconi, Richard Briggs and Elijah Huling III.
