Blue & Gold Backers Reach Final 4 Of Pork & Pigskins Contest

LEMONT, IL — Lemont High School's Blue and Gold Backers have reached the "Flavorful Four" of the Illinois High School Association's inaugural Pork & Pigskins Championship, the school said in a release. The organization is again seeking the community's help in order to secure the title of the best concession pork chop sandwich among Illinois high schools. Lemont is facing off against Cambridge High School, Carlinville High School and Normal Community High School in the final four, the school said. "Flavorful Four" voting is live now at the IHSA website, as well as on Lemont High School's website and its Facebook and Twitter pages. The school said community members are encouraged to vote as many times as they would like, and the deadline to vote is 8 a.m. on Friday. According to the school, Lemont was among the top four online vote-getters in its region to advance to the "Savory 16." Those schools earned visits from in-person judges, who visited schools to rate sandwiches on criteria including aroma, flavor, juiciness, aftertaste and presentation. The Blue & Gold Backers pork chop sandwich was revealed as the winner of the Yorkshire Region on the IHSA Playoff Pairing Preview Show on Oct. 23, the school said. 79 schools competed for the best pork chop sandwich competition, which is sponsored by IHSA and the Illinois Pork Producers Association. The Pork & Pigskins state champion will be revealed at halftime of the IHSA Class 6A Football State Championship at Northern Illinois University on Nov. 27, according to the school. The winning school will receive a prize package from the Illinois Pork Producers Association that includes a $500 reimbursement on their pork purchase for next season, a state championship banner and a golden spatula for the winner, the school said. The Lemont High School football team will play in the second round of playoffs on Friday against Springfield High School.
