JOLIET, IL — At Tuesday night's Joliet City Council meeting, two-term councilwoman Bettye Gavin delivered a message for the shooting victims and their families. She also had a message directed at the shooters. On Sunday, Will County police said that two men opened fire on the backyard crowd of at least 200 party goers at 1018 East Jackson St. The shootings happened between 12:40 and 12:50 a.m. Although the shootings are believed to be gang-related, the two homicide victims were not affiliated with any gangs, nor was the person who hosted the party in the city's Ridgewood Area. "But I say to these perpetrators, your time is ending," Gavin declared. "We're coming for you, and we're going to clean up our streets." Gavin also remarked,"I just want to send prayers out for the shooting victims that we've been encountering here lately and their families. We just want our community safe and the only way we will be able to do that is that we all work together in doing that." As for her message to the families of recent gun violence in Joliet, Gavin had this to say: "My heart goes out to you, for your loss and then for any injuries that you may have."
