Description
Los Angeles, CA — Los Angeles Sanitation and Environment began a donation drive Monday to collect cold-weather items for homeless individuals across Los Angeles.
The agency's Solid Resources Citywide Recycling Division will be collecting donations of new and gently used blankets, sleeping bags and socks. All the donations will be distributed throughout the month by city personnel, said Heather Johnson, principal public relations representative for the sanitation department.
The drive will continue through the end of the year.
Donations can be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays at any of the designated locations, which are in Los Angeles, Northridge and Sun Valley. Donation sites are located at Los Angeles City yards, including the West LA, South LA, North Central District, Harbor District and Washington yards.
Last year, the city collected 2,500 blankets, Johnson said. She said last year's drive went really well, and this year the department hopes people will come out and donate at the same rate.
