Pima County Administrator Continues To Recover From Bike Accident

TUCSON, AZ — Pima County Administrator Chuck Huckelberry is recovery slowly after he suffered a head injury and broke several ribs when he was knocked from his bicycle while riding in downtown Tucson Oct. 23. Huckelberry's wife, Maureen Huckelberry, recently provided an update on his progress. "Chuck is doing better," Maureen Huckelberry said in a statement. "He's made slow but steady progress over these past 10 days. The nature of his injuries requires us to be patient and celebrate the small victories as they come each day." The administrator's doctors are optimistic that he'll recover and be able to return to work, but Maureen Huckelberry did not provide a possible time frame for when her husband might feel up to going back to work. "Right now, we're focused on how Chuck is doing today and whether today was better than yesterday," she said in the statement. "On behalf of Chuck and our entire family, I want to share how appreciative and grateful we all are for the outpouring of support and concern for Chuck. It's been truly incredible and I am deeply touched to know how much he means to all of you. Thank you." Chuck Huckelberry was hit by a vehicle and knocked from his bicycle while riding with friends Oct. 23, according to the county. A few days after the crash, Huckelberry's family released a statement on the accident, describing him as an "experienced and avid rider" who was wearing a helmet, gloves and a bright jersey at the time of the crash. They said he never wore earphones while riding and was focused on a safe and fun ride.
