You are invited to participate in a research study titled, “Ground truth Sense (STU00208950)” This study is being done by the Department of Preventive Medicine at Northwestern’s Feinberg School of Medicine.
What is this study about?
The purpose of this study is to test wearable devices that can recognize everyday activities like walking, commuting, eating, etc. Also, we would also like to get your opinion about the devices.
Who can participate in the study?
This study is looking for men and women who:
• Adults
• Able to wear the devices for a total of 10 hours (can be divided into 2 days).
• Able to smoke nicotine.
What happens if I decide to participate?
If you agree to take part in this study, you will be asked to visit the lab twice. You will be asked to do the following:
• Perform some activities in lab and while wearing the devices.
• Wear 2 wearable devices for 10 hours while carrying out your normal routine anywhere. One device will be worn on the wrist (smart watch) and the second will be worn on the chest like a necklace (wearable camera).
• Answer questionnaires about the devices and your experience with them.
Participants in the research study will be paid $60 for their participation along with parking validation if needed. The total time commitment for this study is 12 hours (divided into 2 days).
You may not directly benefit from this research; however, we hope that your participation in the study will help develop better practices for disseminating research results. Your participation in this study is completely voluntary. You are free not to participate or to withdraw at any time, for whatever reason without penalty. Thank You!
