Full-time Monday – Friday 9:00 – 5:00 Custodian/Maintenance Person is responsible for the overall cleanliness and maintenance of the Center which includes the dining room, activity areas, offices, storerooms, bathrooms, and kitchen. The Custodian is also responsible for light to moderate repairs of the Senior Center to ensure that the program meets agency, Department for the Aging and Department of Health standards. The custodian will assist with food service in the event of kitchen staff absences or additional help is needed e.g. special events. The custodian will work under the supervision of the Program Director and will ensure timely set-up, turnover and storage of furniture and supplies and will work as part of a team to create a welcoming environment. Required Qualifications: • Custodial or Maintenance experience required. • Food Service experience and possess a food handler’s license • Knowledge of proper cleaning methods required. • Must have effective organizational, problem solving, and time management skills. • Must be able to physically move through the Center, kitchen, and activity spaces. • Must be able to lift 55 pounds. • Must be able to climb ladder for cleaning and maintenance, changing light bulbs, hanging pictures, etc. • Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate cleaning supplies and equipment. • Ability to present a positive image of the organization to members of the community. • Must be able to take direction and possess the ability to learn and comprehend information from written procedures, manuals, and other materials. • Experience successfully working with a diverse population and respect for older people also desirable. Additional Desired Qualifications: • Successful experience working as an effective member of a team. • Positive attitude, ability to take initiative in problem-solving. • Emotional maturity, respect for older adults from various cultures and backgrounds. • Flexibility Working Conditions: This job involves standing for long periods as well as stooping, squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing and climbing. Must be able to withstand exposure to adverse weather conditions. Wearing of protective equipment, such as latex gloves, per OSHA regulations is required. Tasks may involve possible exposure to blood or bodily fluids.
