Wintering them can be a challenge.. lets discuss some methods to ensure it isn't more difficult than need bee :) So.. you're wondering what it takes to have a beehive ready for winter! Here is a great opportunity to learn a process for doing just that. Join Josh Calo, lead Apiculturist of Sol Nectar Farm at Chesapeake's Bounty to learn the art of wintering honeybees! "Winter Prep for your Honeybees" will afford the attendee(s) a sufficient grasp on the basic tenets of wintering a colony of honey bees The attendee(s) who partakes in this class.. will have been presented the knowledge & information necessary to successfully winter honeybees Topics will include; but are not limited to: Assessing colony condition Equipment configuration considerations Ongoing management and care*This is an outdoor socially distanced (in the apiary) event *While this is not an age restricted class each attendee present must be accounted for with a paid ticket.. and all those in attendance must be able to maintain formal education type composure.. so as to allow everyone the opportunity to absorb the information being disseminated with minimal distraction. *While there are no refunds for this class; if notice is provided 24 hours prior to the class commencing.. the ticket holder may request the ticket be transferred to a subsequent class (conducted by Josh Calo at Chesapeake's Bounty) of equal or lesser value (this is a one time transferable courtesy valid for one year) Sol Nectar Farm; an ever evolving manifestation of Nature.. We offer Beekeeping equipment & hive products like honey bee packages, custom ordered beehives, honey & beeswax to name a few. We also collect & rehome honeybees when they swarm or colonize a location that could create a hazard.... Josh Calo is a licensed home improvement contractor who can open up & close the structure properly (minus the bees) with relative ease A swarm of honeybees clustered like so is actually quite docile.. nevertheless.. prudence dictates.. notifying the experts as we will bee equipped with the precision tools necessary to handle these menacingly ferocious creatures ;) We look forward to sharing this rewarding journey in sustainability with everyone is our ever growing community..
