Featured speaker: Derek Armstrong

Derek joined the City of Henderson in August 2019 as the Director of Economic Development & Tourism and is responsible for promoting a diversified economy by attracting new business and assisting business expansion. Derek encourages entrepreneurial enterprise and working with industry partners to develop a high-skilled workforce.
Derek comes from the Nevada Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) where he served as Deputy Director. In his role at GOED, he worked to attract new business and assisted with business expansion, supported entrepreneurial enterprise, and worked with industry partners to develop a high- skilled workforce.
Derek served as an assembly man in the Nevada Legislature during the 2015 Session where he was chair of the Committee on Taxation. As a Legislator, he helped pass Economic Development Legislation including abatement programs related to data centers and aviation industry.
He graduated from the William S. Boyd School of Law with a Juris Doctor in Law and Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Nevada Las Vegas. He founded and practiced at the Arlint & Armstrong law firm, providing service to individuals and businesses in the areas of Tax, Trust and Estate, and Contract Negotiations. He also served five years in the United States Marine Corps achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant (E-6), receiving numerous medals and decorations.
