Social Entrepreneurship with Professor Andrew Samwick - DartUP Bootcamp In-Person DartUP presents Fall 2021 Entrepreneurship Bootcamp - In-Person Social Entrepreneurship with Professor Andrew Samwick Professor Samwick will speak about the details of managing a startup centered around social entrepreneurship. Students will be able to hear about Samwick’s experience in entrepreneurship and learn about social innovation. Samwick is the Sandra L. and Arthur L. Irving ‘72a, P’10 Professor of Economics and Chair of the Department of Economics at Dartmouth College, where he teaches social entrepreneurship. In the field of economics, he is most widely known for his research on the economics of retirement. He is a research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research and served as a member of the Census Scientific Advisory Committee. He has also served on technical panels for the Social Security Advisory Board and as a consultant for the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation on the assumptions and methods they use to make long-term projections. From 2004 – 2019, Samwick served as the Director of the Nelson A. Rockefeller Center for Public Policy and the Social Sciences at Dartmouth. He has published articles in American Economic Review, Journal of Political Economy, Journal of Finance, Journal of Monetary Economics, Journal of Public Economics, Journal of Development Economics, Review of Economics and Statistics, and a number of specialized journals and conference volumes. From 2011 – 2014, he served as Editor of Economics Letters. In July 2003, Samwick joined the staff of the President’s Council of Economic Advisers, serving for a year as its chief economist and helping to direct the work of about 20 economists in support of the three Presidential appointees on the Council. Since 2006, he has served on the Board of Directors of the Ledyard Financial Group (LFGP) in Hanover, New Hampshire. He has previously served on the boards of the National Tax Association, the Montshire Museum of Science, and the Hanover Conservancy. DartUP will host entrepreneurship workshops open to all undergraduate and graduate students each fall term to introduce students to startup concepts and provide hands-on learning experiences. Interested students will form social entrepreneurial startup teams at the end of fall term to prepare for the annual 2-term long social entrepreneurial startup competition in which students form teams to create, design, market, and pitch their startup ideas to a panel of judges.
