Experience the Canyon after dark! Join knowledgeable guides on a fairly short hike on a hopefully starry, moonless night! Who is Invited: Open to ages 14 and over; minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. Registration/reservations required! Sorry, no group registrations. When & Where to Meet: Arrive no later than 5:15PM. Meet at the Visitor Center by the rainwater harvesting tower. Plan to be at the Visitor Center and ready to go no later than 5:15PM. The hike starts promptly at 5:30PM. What to Wear & Bring: Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes. Bring a flashlight, at least a quart of water and a snack if you like. Requirements: Minors must be accompanied by their parent or legal guardian. No pets please. Participants should be able to hike 3 miles round trip over rugged but beautiful trails with some elevation gain. Registration, Fees & Cancellation: Registration is required for this hike. Group size is limited to the first 10 that register. Natural Area entry fees apply. IMPORTANT INFO: Since this hike begins after hours, be sure to self-pay as you enter the Natural Area. Instructions are posted to the right of the Fee Booth. Correct change is needed when self-paying: $6.00 per adult (13 years and older), or enter your annual Texas State Parks pass number on the appropriate line of the self pay envelope. Credit cards are NOT accepted when self-paying. This hike is subject to cancellation. Check trail conditions by going to the GCSNA twitter feed or the Government Canyon State Natural Area Facebook page. Friends of Government Canyon is made up of a growing group of active volunteers who take pride in the work we do — from grooming trails to facilitating education programs to advocating the protection of the Aquifer and numerous resources found within the boundaries of the Natural Area. We are hikers, naturalists, artists, mountain bikers, runners, researchers, clean water advocates and in general, lovers of the outdoors with one common mission; protecting and preserving the Natural Area.
