PATCHOGUE, NY — Eleven local people were arrested in a crackdown on drunk driving and warrant enforcement over the Halloween weekend, Suffolk County Sheriff Errol Toulon's office said. Eight drivers were charged with driving under the influence, as well as three for outstanding arrest warrants between Thursday and early Sunday morning. The enforcement included enhanced driving while intoxicated patrols and ongoing warrant squad arrests. Those arrested include: Maeghan Murphy, 25, of Patchogue on Friday was charged with driving while intoxicated.Pedro Barbecho, 33, of Medford, was charged on Friday with felony driving while intoxicated. He had one prior DWI arrest, Toulon's office said.Youssef Wahib, 34, of Holtsville, was charged on Saturday with driving while intoxicated.Oscar Gomezzavaleta, 28, of Patchogue, was charged on Saturday with driving while intoxicated.Carlos Nivelo, 43, Patchogue, was charged on Sunday with aggravated driving while intoxicated.Tanya Bohn, 32, of Blue Point, was charged on Sunday with driving while intoxicated.Jacquelyn Janickey, 28, of Centereach, was charged on Sunday with driving while intoxicated.Gregorio Maldonado, 35, of Central Islip, was charged on Sunday with driving while intoxicated.A 21-year-old from Bay Shore, was charged on Thursday with two outstanding First District Court arrest warrants issued in March and September.A 60-year-old homeless man was charged on Friday with a Patchogue Village Court bench warrant that was issued on April 21, as well as a Babylon Village Court bench warrant issued on June 8. He also had three bench warrants for First District Court, as well as one for Patchogue Village Court on Aug. 26.A 38-year-old Bayport man was arrested Saturday on a warrant for petit larceny. Deputy sheriffs were patrolling the county "keeping residents safe, while parents and their kids were going house to house collecting candy dressed as princesses, superheroes, monsters, and ghouls," Toulon's office said. He commended his deputies for their "hard work., saying the department loves to see children dressed in Halloween costumes running from house to house enjoying the holiday, but "unfortunately, some drivers make poor choices and put these young people at risk by driving while intoxicated." "I am proud of the hard work my deputies do every night to take these dangerous impaired drivers off the road," he said. I also thank the sheriff's office investigators who work tirelessly to enforce the courts' warrants and bring fugitives to justice. Our entire agency works together to make Suffolk County a safe place to live and work."
