WAUWATOSA, WI— A 13-year-old charged as an adult in the fatal hit-and-run on Oct. 14 in Wauwatosa appeared in court on Friday.
Jayden Adams, 13, of Milwaukee, was charged Oct. 20 with six felonies, including first-degree reckless homicide and hit-and-run causing death. If convicted, Adams faces over 80 years in prison.
A $75,000 bond was set for Adams.
Defense attorney Katie Holtz requested Adam's face not be shown at the next hearings. The court will make a record regarding the request at the Nov. 17 hearing, according to online court records.
A motion hearing is scheduled for Nov. 17 and a preliminary hearing will be held on Nov. 30, court records said.
Police said the victim, Sunita Suratu Balogun-Olayiwola, 47, tried to intervene in an auto theft at the Holiday Inn located at 11111 W. North Ave., according to the criminal complaint.
A group of teens tried to steal a Hyundai but were interrupted by Balogun-Olayiwola, the complaint said.
The complaint said she got out of her car and approached them. Adams got into the driver's seat of Balogun-Olayiwola's car and ran over her, the complaint said.
Investigators found Olayiwola's car later found abandoned in Milwaukee, police said.
Surveillance later showed the teens using Balogun-Olayiwola's credit card at Walmart, the complaint said.
Three others — a 14-year-old female, a 15 year-old-female and a 15-year-old male — were also arrested but not charged as adults. The other teens will go through Children's Court.
