Black Warrior Riverkeeper is teaming up with Osprey Initiative & Freshwater Land Trust to help clean up our watershed!
Join us for a day of service on Saturday, November 13 & 20, 2021.
Meeting point: Litter Gitter behind Roebuck Shopping Center
Safety: This event will take place along the roadside in an area that may not have sidewalks & along a creek with steep banks, so please only sign up if you feel comfortable with this. (Children must be at least 10yrs old to participate and must be accompanied by an adult.)
What to expect: Volunteers will meet at our designated meeting spot depicted on the map. All volunteers will have to fill out a liability waiver before grabbing their supplies and getting to work. There is a ton of trash both in the creek and along the banks, so volunteers will be able to spread out. This cleanup entails light walking and the ability to pick up trash. Those who are so inclined, maybe able to climb down into the creek to pick up trash from there.
What we encourage volunteers to wear/bring:
1. Comfortable clothing that you do not mind getting a little wet & dirty (preferably long pants)
2. Your protective mask
3. Closed-toed shoes (*If you are willing to get in the creek, bring waterproof shoes/rain boots)
4. Water & Bug Spray
What we will provide:
1. Garbage bags
2. Gloves
3. Litter Pickers
Black Warrior Riverkeeper’s mission is to protect and restore the Black Warrior River and its tributaries. We are a citizen-based nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting clean water for the sake of public health, recreation, and wildlife habitat throughout our patrol area, the Black Warrior River watershed.
