ARLINGTON, MA — The town of Arlington is holding a public meeting Nov. 10 to share designs and get feedback about a project designed to make the trip to school safer for Stratton Elementary School students. Arlington received a Safe Routes to School Infrastructure Project Award in 2019 from the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to fund improvements near the school for students who walk and bike. The public meeting will be Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. The town asked interested residents to sign up online. Funding from the state will go towards new sidewalks, sidewalk repairs, safer roadway crossings, and new signage, according to a news release. The project also aims to make the route to Stratton more accessible for students who have limited mobility. The estimated cost for the design and construction of the project is $1,072,752, which the state will pay. The town is responsible for associated right-of-way costs. The project focuses on three streets: Hemlock Street between Brattle Street and Dickson Avenue, Dickson Avenue between Hemlock Street and Mountain Avenue, and Mountain Avenue between Dickson Avenue and Wheeler Lane, according to the town's project FAQ.
