SPOTSYLVANIA COUNTY, VA — Thousands of dollars in cash, two cars, more than 50 pounds of drugs, and several guns were seized by the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office last week. Authorities said the seizure occurred as they served search warrants at the end of a months-long narcotics investigation. In May 2021, Spotsylvania's Narcotics Unit began an investigation into David Sparks, according to a news release posted by the sheriff's office. At the time, investigators believed that Sparks was involved with the distribution of cocaine. On Oct. 25, authorities conducted search warrants at three different residences in the area. Sparks was also searched, and he was later arrested and charged with felony distribution of a controlled substance. "The ensuing searches of David Sparks person and the residences yielded an estimated 6 ounces of cocaine, 50lbs of marijuana and small quantities of heroin, MDMA tablets, and pills," the sheriff's office said on Monday. "Also seized were several guns, over $630,000 in US currency, a 2009 Maserati Gran Turismo, and a 2014 Nissan Maxima." Authorities believe the total value of the seized property exceeds $850,000. Sparks is being held without bond at the Rappahannock Regional Jail. His next court date is scheduled for Nov. 24. "The citizens of Spotsylvania are fed up with this kind of poison on our streets," Spotsylvania County Sheriff Roger Harris said in a news release. "Drug dealers have to get lucky every day, we only need to get lucky once."
