MANCHESTER, CT — After a fall season without state championships in 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic, and a 2-day delay brought on by inclement weather this year, the CIAC cross country divisional championships were finally contested Monday with 12 races at Wickham Park in Manchester. Brothers Gavin and Callum Sherry of Conard were the only boys to break 15:50 on the hilly, 3.1 mile course, placing first and second in Class L with times of 15:25 and 15:38, respectively. Rachel St. Germain of Somers was the only girl to eclipse the 19-minute mark, winning the Class S race in 18:42. The smallest margin of victory was seven seconds, achieved in both Class M contests. Griffin Mandirola of Suffield topped Justin Cascio of Lewis Mills, while Peyton Bornstein of Tolland edged teammate Calista Mayer. St. Germain finished a minute and 22 seconds ahead of the runner-up to easily post the widest margin of victory. Aidan Puffer of Manchester took those honors for the boys by placing 38 seconds ahead in Class LL. Here are the top three teams and top five individuals from each race.
