Description
EAST HAVEN, CT — Running for reelection, East Haven Mayor Joseph A. Carfora Sunday had delivered to a number of homes a letter calling out the "lies" he said nearby residents have been told about the Tweed New Haven Airport expansion project.
"After spending time in your neighborhood speaking with many residents, it's come to my attention that a small party of people are knocking on doors giving out false, misleading information (frankly they are lying to you) about Tweed New Haven Airport," he wrote.
Carfora said the letter to residents was sent to "reassure" neighbors:
There will be NO Eminent Domain = NO ONE is taking your home. In 2019, before I was your mayor, a federal court approved runway expansion, but any runway expansion will ONLY occur within the boundaries of the existing airport. No cargo, freight = airport traffic IS NOT coming through your neighborhood. NO, the former J A Long's\Dodge Avenue property is NOT airport property and WILL NOT be a parking lot. Carfora said that what residents have been told is misinformation.
"I have never seen lies spread like this in a campaign before, and it greatly disappoints me," he wrote.
