Press release from the City of Austin: October 28, 2021 Case: 21-1581164 Date: Monday, June 7, 2021 Time: 6:03 p.m. Location: 6th and Neches streets Deceased: Mark Everett Guard III, White male, born 09/17/1986Arrested: Barry Joseph Duhon, Black male, 60 years of age The Austin Police Department (APD) has identified the deceased in the June 7 homicide at 6th and Neches streets as Mark Everett Guard III. On Monday, June 7, 2021, at 6:03 p.m., Austin 9-1-1 received a call of an unresponsive male at 6th and Neches streets. APD and Austin-Travis County EMS (ATCEMS) arrived on scene to find Mark Guard III, with obvious head trauma. Mr. Guard was transported to Dell Seton Medical Center at the University of Texas where he remained in critical condition until he succumbed to his injuries. He was pronounced deceased on June 20, 2021, at approximately 11:30 a.m. Homicide investigators and crime scene technicians were called to the scene to investigate. While on scene, investigators were notified that the assault was captured on HALO video. Based on the video, Barry Duhon was identified as the suspect of the assault and was interviewed. Mr. Duhon was arrested and filed on for aggravated assault serious, bodily injury (SBI) and had a bond of $100,000. On June 21, 2021, the Travis County Medical Examiner's office conducted an autopsy to determine the official cause and manner of death. On October 27, 2021, the Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death as complications from blunt force trauma, and the manner, homicide.
