Cranston Police Arrest 2 Men On Gun, Drug Charges

CRANSTON, RI — Two men are facing drug and gun charges following a recent traffic stop in the city, according to the Cranston Police Department. On Wednesday, around 4:15 p.m., Cranston police said an officer pulled over Jarred Alba, 25, of Cranston, after observing him drive carelessly in the area of Cranston Street. Police said they identified a passenger in the vehicle as Troy Lassiter, 49, of Johnston. Police said they searched the vehicle and seized 49 counterfeit pills stamped with the numerical identifier E-404, associated with an amphetamine commonly prescribed to treat ADHT and narcolepsy. Later, police said a field test revealed the pills contained fentanyl, a potent pain killer responsible for deadly opioid overdoses. Also, discovered inside the vehicle was a quantity of crack cocaine, a digital scale, and a loaded .45 caliber handgun, according to police. Police said Alba tried to run away during the traffic stop but was quickly apprehended and placed in custody despite resisting arrest. Lassiter remained at the scene and was found to have an active arrest warrant from the 3rd District Court, police said.
