GRAYSLAKE, IL —Village officials plan to spend $119,000 for upgrades to an old water tower located near the Grayslake Heritage Center and Grayslake Fire Protection District. The funds will be used to check on the structural integrity and repaint the water tower while still maintaining the structure's historic look, according to the Daily Herald. Village officials also considered tearing the water down, which could have cost an estimated $100,000. "We are a historic village, and to keep that we need to preserve that history," Davies said. "When visitors come to downtown they have the sense that Grayslake has history to it; it's not just another urban sprawl suburb." More via the Daily Herald
