ELMHURST, IL — A person at Elmhurst University told police last week that a stranger tried to extort money by threatening to publish an explicit video of him, police said. The person refused to give any money. The suspect then disseminated the video to the person's social media contacts, police said. The victim blocked the suspect from his social media platforms. The incident occurred about 2:30 a.m. Thursday. The person reported it to police the next afternoon. The police listed the crime as attempted sexual exploitation.
