GILROY, CA — The Santa Clara County Coroner's office identified the victim killed in a shooting at a Gilroy councilmember's Halloween party early Saturday morning as 18-year-old Michael Daniel Zuniga-Macias, the Gilroy Police Department announced Monday.
Zuniga-Macias was one of four people shot at the residence of Gilroy councilmember Rebeca Armendariz. Two victims remain in the hospital and the fourth was released after treatment.
Police also announced Monday that there were at least two shooting suspects.
Benjamin David Calderon, a 19-year-old Gilroy resident, was arrested on Sunday in connection with the shooting. Police did not name the second suspect.
Two firearms were found at the scene after it was processed by both of the Gilroy Police Department's Crime Scene Investigations Unit and the Santa Clara County Crime Lab, though it is unclear whether they were used in the shooting, according to police.
On Saturday around 12:55 a.m., police received a 911 call of a shooting on the 400 block of Los Animas Avenue in Gilroy, the Gilroy Police Department said in a statement on Sunday. After arriving at the large outdoor party, officers learned that an altercation had escalated into a shooting at the gathering.
"I am thankful that my family and I, who live on Las Animas, were not hurt in this tragedy, and I pray for those whose loved ones have been touched by what has occurred," Armendariz said in a statement Monday, according SF Gate. "In the meantime, we are giving our full cooperation to the Gilroy Police Department in this investigation. Our primary concern is for the individuals impacted and their families. We hope the Gilroy community will come together with love and support for those touched by yesterday's events at the appropriate time."
