Good day, people of Atlanta! Kathy Cioffi here with your Tuesday edition of the Atlanta Daily. First, today's weather: Mostly sunny and nice. High: 67 Low: 46. Here are the top stories in Atlanta today: It's Election Day 2021 in Atlanta. Residents who haven't already voted early in person or mailed in their absentee ballots can still head to the polls today or deliver absentee ballots to drop boxes or at voting polls. Atlanta voters will be filling nine Atlanta School Board seats, 10 Municipal judgeships, 15 City Council seats, the City Council President chair, and the job of Atlanta Mayor. (Atlanta Patch)An 11-year-old boy was hit by a vehicle and killed while trick-or-treating on Halloween in the East Lake neighborhood of southeast Atlanta, according to authorities. Atlanta police say the boy had been standing on a sidewalk with several other kids before he tried to cross Memorial Drive. That's when he was hit by a driver, who stayed on the scene. Police arrived just before 8:20 p.m., according to a news release, and the child, whose name has not been released, was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died. Although the crash is still being investigated, authorities do not expect any charges to be filed. (Macon Telegraph) Two construction workers stuck in a boom truck in downtown Atlanta were rescued by firefighters Monday afternoon. The workers were in a bucket lifted in the air when the boom truck became inoperable on Centennial Olympic Park Drive between State Farm Arena and the CNN parking deck, according to Atlanta Fire and Rescue spokeswoman Alyssa Richardson. Firefighters safely took the pair down from the raised bucket, and the truck was left with the equipment rental company that owns it. ( The Atlanta Journal Constitution)Free e-bike and e-scooter rides to and from the polls today are being offered by Lime to all Atlanta residents. "We believe in encouraging participation in democracy and we're proud to offer all Atlantans a free ride to and from their poll site on Tuesday," said Lime General Manager CJ Shaw. To receive two free rides up to 30 minutes on any Lime vehicle, use the promotional code ATLANTARIDETOPOLLS2021. (MDJOnline.com)Airbnb is serving up a different sort of experience at the Atlanta History Center. Instead of Airbnb's typical overnight stay, visitors are being offered a "home tour through the centuries" of three historic homes and gardens. The walking tour takes place at the Atlanta History Center Buckhead campus and is part a program Airbnb has launched with Made By Us, an alliance of history and civic organizations. The objective is to increase interest in cultural institutions, with 100 percent of proceeds benefiting the organizations, including historic sites in Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and Rochester, N.Y.
