Description

Tax Increment Financing Districts (TIFs) are a BIG deal in Chicago. How do they work? How many of them are there? How much money are they moving annually? Are TIFs helping or harming our Black neighborhoods? How do TIFs fit into the larger narrative of economic justice in Chicago? We will answer these questions and more with a special online seminar tailored for Chicago’s Black Business Network. Tom Tresser from the CivicLab’s TIF Illumination Project (www.tifreports.com) will be our presenter. Tom is a long-time civic educator and public defender. He was a co-leader of the No Games Chicago campaign in 2009 that derailed Chicago’s bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympics (www.nogameschicago.com). He was the Green Party candidate for Cook County Board President in 2010. In 2013 he opened the CivicLab in Chicago’s West Loop as a co-working/maker space dedicated to grassroots democracy and social justice (www.civiclab.us). Tom has delivered over 200 community forums since 2010. There is no charge for this session, but you must register. Sonja Cassandra Perdue, Founder Chicago’s Black Business Network www.ChicagosBlackBusinessNetwork.com Register in advance for this meeting: *PLEASE NOTE: This meeting will be recorded.
