Chord Sorcery for Guitar, with Ian Hughes January 29th, 2022, 1pm - 3pm Online AND In-Person Jazz Night School www.jazznightschool.org Spice up your comping! Learn some easier-to-finger chord shapes that sound rich and can be used in many contexts. This workshop is geared towards guitarists that want to improve their chord vocabulary and comping skills. In this two hour workshop, we will: - Further our understanding of the theory behind chords in a way that allows us to convert the chord shapes we already know into many other useful voicings. - Look at three categories of chord shape: shell voicings, guide tones, and rootless voicings (and learn how to relate all three to common bar chord shapes). - Learn how to use these shapes in jazz standards. Handouts will be provided for all topics covered. This workshop is being offered as a hybrid, both online and in-person simultaneously, with a limited number of in-person participants.
