BALTIMORE, MD — A steam leak prompted an evacuation in downtown Baltimore Saturday night and a disruption to a popular nightlife destination. The incident began in the area of the Power Plant. Originally, firefighters were called to the unit block of Market Place for a high-pressure steam leak before 6:30 p.m., the Baltimore Firefighters Union IAFF Local 734 reported. Buildings had been evacuated, and pedestrians were advised to avoid the area. Baltimore and Lombard streets were blocked, officials said, and the steam leak was still active before 6:30 p.m. No hazards were found with the use of hazmat meters, and authorities had called in BGE and Veolia to assist with the steam leak response. "Power Plant Live! will reopen at 9 PM," the nighttime entertainment destination posted on social media. "We appreciate the assistance of Baltimore City Fire Department, Public Works and Veolia for their rapid resolution and we look forward to Halloween tonight!" We are waiting patiently to re-open our doors to you, but will be delayed from our original door time of 8 PM.
