Description

Press release from the City of Portland: October 29, 2021 The event will include a series of speakers to include: City of Portland Planning Director Christine Grimando and DPW Transportation Systems Engineer Jeremiah Bartlett, as well as artist Mark Pettegrow. The event will conclude around dusk with a ribbon cutting at 4:00 PM and special lighting effects focused on the art installation. In April 2020, the City of Portland, in coordination with MaineDOT and the University of Southern Maine (USM), began construction on the Deering's Corner Roundabout at the intersection of Brighton Avenue, Deering Avenue, and Falmouth Street. The 6-leg signalized intersection has been converted to a 5-leg roundabout, with the segment of Brighton Avenue between the intersection and Bedford Street discontinued. The roundabout improves traffic operations and safety with the replacement of the signals, which operated inefficiently and were confusing to road users, with a modern roundabout, which eliminates long waits at red lights.
