Police Shoot Man Armed With Paintball Gun In Long Beach

LONG BEACH, CA — Police injured a 28-year-old Long Beach man early Saturday after he reportedly pointed a paintball gun at officers. The man was possibly suicidal, police said. Police responded to reports of shots fired just after 1 a.m. in the 1900 block of Harbor Avenue in Long Beach, where the man pointed a weapon at the first officer who arrived on scene. The officer immediately responded by firing his weapon, the Long Beach Police Department said. Police immediately rendered aid to the man, who was rushed to an area hospital. No officers were injured during the shooting. After a preliminary investigation, police determined that the man was wielding a paintball gun, which was recovered at the scene. The suspect also later told officers he was suicidal. Police were still investigating the incident and asked anyone with information to call Long Beach Homicide Detectives at 562-570-7244.
