Description
Press release from the City of Long Beach:
10/29/2021
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP)
The vaccine for those 5 to 11 will be a lower dose of the Pfizer vaccine than what is provided for those 12 and older and will be distinguished by different packaging. The vaccine for these youngsters will also be a two-dose course with 21 days between first and second doses.
Once approved by ACIP, the Health and Human Services Department and pediatric providers will distribute information about where and when children will be able to receive their vaccine. The process has allowed the City to pre-order vaccines in anticipation of approvals and is expected to have limited supply initially once the vaccine is fully authorized. As more pediatric doses are manufactured, the supply is expected to increase.
The Health Department will release more information as it becomes available.
