I'm not sure where you get your information on Liberalism. When I studied it in the 8th Grade, I learned that far from wanting to control others' lives, Liberals wanted the right to control their own lives. As far as hearing others' opinions, our Founding Fathers prided themselves in their willingness to hear others opinions. Jefferson actually kept newspapers of editorials critical of him, and proudly showed them to foreign diplomats who were amazed he tolerated them. Liberals have actually never believed there are two sets of rules. Indeed in the Golden Age of Liberalism, many states banned slavery and even the US Constitution does not sanction slavery and, from a distance, the 5th Amendment appears to forcefully outlaw it. Most of what you say are the trespasses of Conservatives. Conservatives are always whining that their free speech rights have been violated when someone exercises their own right to speak their own mind. Conservatives demand the right to keep and bear arms but deny those rights to Democrats and Blacks. In one ludicrous example of Conservative overreach, elected Congressman were banned from bringing guns with them to work, clearly an egregious violation of both Common Sense and the Second Amendment. Conservatives will attempt to intimidate a School Board Member by saying she should be killed, and they know where she lives (Sure this is Constitutionally protected speech as it falls short of a bona fide threat), yet when a Democrat merely proposes that Congressmen be allowed to bring their weapons to the Floor in case they need it for self defense, the Conservatives allege "thereat". And how many times to they stick up for a cop who shoots someone who merely has a gun on him. NewsFlash: Most people carry guns on them when they drive. If he's not pointing it at you, it is not a threat. The list goes on and on. Conservatives are the biggest hypocrites. Their one-time champion, Ronald Reagan was the worst president of the 20th century who foolishly looked to Calvin Coolidge, (a man who makes Joe Biden look like a man of tireless energy) as his hero. Reagan was an idiot who though that since he was a happy teenager in the 1920's, it must have been because of the president. It never occurred to Reagan that Teenagehood is a happy time for most people, and it had nothing to do with the president. In the end, if you want to support Authoritarianism over Liberal Democracy that is your right. But please do not impugn Liberalism per se. Liberalism founded the Rights of Man, discredited Divine Right of Kings, and by paving the way to Capitalism, led to our modern high-technology consumer economy. If and when Liberalism is abolished, most of our everyday conveniences will go down the drain with it.
