Any advice appreciated, getting a POS

Hello, any advice or suggestions greatly appreciated. I am a volunteer for a local non-profit business in the Tacoma area. In need is a simple, reliable, affordable POS system. POS (point of sale system) ideally with a scanner gun. So far everything I am seeing online takes a considerable % of each sale/swipe/transaction. Again, any info would be greatly appreciated.
