Description

The Allegheny YMCA is happy to partner with CrossFit War Streets and Veterans Leadership Program to help struggling veterans heal. Did you know that ~20% of veterans who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom suffer from some form of PTSD? Or that that number is almost at 30% for Vietnam veterans? Did you know that three 30 minute bouts of exercise over a 12 week period has shown to SIGNIFICANTLY decrease symptoms of PTSD and depression? "Burpees for Veterans" is a fitness event organized to raise money to subsidize YMCA memberships for local veterans in need. This event is open to any and everyone who wants to show their support. The "Burpees for Veterans" work out will be to accumulate as many burpees as possible in 22 minutes. Why 22 minutes? Because every 22 minutes, a veteran loses their life due to complications from PTSD, addiction or injuries sustained while serving. We are asking all participants to collect pledges from family, friends, and coworkers to help support this initiative. Donors can pledge "amount per burpee" or "flat rate". All pledges will be due to Erica Gadelmeyer by November 30. 2021. Not into working out but still want to help? Donate now at pittsburghymca.org/give and select 'Allegheny YMCA'. The YMCA of Greater Pittsburgh is a 501c3 and all dollars collected will be used for their intended purposes.
