Trishandra was recently appointed to the Criminal Justice Training Commission which supervises the basic training of all WA state police officers. -Kshama Sawant: Seattle City Council member and sole “NO!” vote on the last unaccountable police union (SPOG) contract; sponsored and passed new law banning the use of chemical weapons and other brutal police tactics. Build the movement for completely independent prosecutions of police use of deadly force in Washington State! The prosecutor is the linchpin in determining what accountability may lie for police officers who use deadly force. With 39 different local county prosecutors, each having the power to make individual determinations; there is no uniform measure by which to examine whether a police officer who exercised deadly force should be held accountable. With 39 different local prosecutors, 39 times there is bound to be a conflict of interest. Hear from expert speakers on this important issue. Councilmember Kshama Sawant is the #1 elected advocate for police accountability in Seattle and is threatened by a racist, conservative-backed recall election. Sawant was the only councilmember to vote “NO!” on the unaccountable police union contract on November 13th, 2018, notably before the outrageous murder of George Floyd. In fact, the Recall Campaign explicitly cites her support of the Black Lives Matter Movement as a reason to remove her from office. The next vote on the Seattle Police Officers Guild (SPOG) contract looms large in the administration to succeed Tear Gas Mayor Jenny Durkan. It’s imperative to organize, fight, and FUNDRAISE to defend Seattle’s #1 elected advocate for police accountability.
