Scott Burns — tenor saxophone, George Fludas — drums, Steve Schmidt — Hammond organ Set 1: 7:00 pm - 8:15 pm | Set 2: 9:00 pm - 10:15 pm - Sold Separately Ohio native Scott Burns has been a fixture on the Chicago jazz scene since his arrival in 1998, where he can be heard performing as a leader of his own groups and as a sideman in leading jazz venues in the region. He has performed alongside several international jazz artists, including McCoy Tyner, Ahmad Jamal, Monty Alexander, Joshua Redman, Clark Terry, Ira Sullivan, Tom Harrell, Joe Lovano, Kenny Werner, Nicholas Payton, Roy Hargove, Wycliffe Gordon, Tony Bennett, Kurt Elling and Harry Connick Jr. Mr. Burns has performed across the nation at numerous major festivals and venues including the JVC Jazz Fest, the Newport Jazz Fest, the Chicago Jazz Festival, Chicago’s Symphony Center, Ravinia Festival, and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. His latest CD, Passages, released on Origin Records and featuring his original compositions, has received critical acclaim nationally and has been broadcasted across the nation. Drummer George Fludas was born in Chicago on October 10, 1966. He was inspired to play drums by his father, who was also a drummer, and who exposed him to great jazz drummers such as Art Blakey, Max Roach, and "Philly" Joe Jones. He began his professional career in the late '80s playing with Chicago greats Von Freeman, Jodie Christian, and Lin Halliday, as well as playing in groups with guitarist Bobby Broom, and saxophonists Ron Blake and Eric Alexander. He has subsequently played with many stellar musicians such as Ira Sullivan, Buddy Montgomery, Lou Donaldson, Frank Wess, Kenny Burrell, Betty Carter, Johnny Griffin, Benny Green, Roy Hargrove, Tommy Flanagan, Hank Jones, Cedar Walton, Diana Krall, Benny Carter, Phil Woods, Junior Cook, Slide Hampton, and Bobby Hutcherson. He has performed at numerous jazz venues in the U.S. such as the Jazz Showcase in Chicago, Yoshi’s in Oakland, the Blue Note, Village Vanguard, Smoke and the Jazz Standard in New York and Catalina's in Hollywood, as well as many international Jazz Festivals, including Montreal Festival du Jazz, Bern Jazz Fest in Switzerland, Glasgow and Edinburgh Jazz Fests, Vitoria Jazz Fest, San Sebastian Fest in Spain and the USS Norway Jazz Cruise. He toured Europe and Japan extensively as a member of Ray Brown's Trio, and with groups led by Hank Jones, Diana Krall, Monty Alexander, Cedar Walton, and Joey Defrancesco. Pianist Steve Schmidt was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He took two years of basic piano lessons in grade school but spent more time playing baseball and basketball. It was an attraction to the guitar - to blues and blues-oriented rock bands - that really drew Steve into the pursuit of music. Throughout high school, he spent much of his free time playing guitar along with records and jamming with others around the city. Blues led to jazz, and he switched to piano the summer after high school to teach himself the chords and melodies of jazz. $10 drink minimum charged per person in the party, per set, if the total for beverages purchased by the party does not meet the minimum. It provides a space for Cincinnatians to gather, work, socialize and herald the musical art form of Jazz. Founded by Brent Gallaher and Vanessa Keeton with the goal of bringing a full-time jazz listening venue back to the Queen City, they paired it with a second passion for artisan coffee giving the residents of and visitors to Walnut Hills and the surrounding Cincinnati neighborhoods a place to grab their morning brew, hang out and work on their computers, or gather with friends over craftsman-quality coffee, espresso beverages, or even an alcoholic libation. As the workday draws to a close, patrons can stay and listen to our area's finest local jazz musicians, young and old, as well as the occasional regionally or nationally known artists.
