Description

Musick's Recreation: At-home Viol Playing in 17th and 18th century Massachusetts Join the SHS in welcoming Lyracle to Sudbury! This program explores at-home music making on the viol in 17th and 18th century Massachusetts through the musical experiences of local viol players, including Sudbury resident Rev. Edmund Browne (1606-1678). The duo consists of Ashley Mulcahy, mezzo-soprano, and viol player James Perretta. New to the Boston area, Lyracle is an ensemble dedicated to repertoire featuring voice and viol-family instruments co-directed by mezzo-soprano Ashley Mulcahy and gambist James Perretta. We hope you'll join us to experience 17th and 18th century music intended for at-home entertainment in a house built c1730! Building on the music and information presented in Lyracle's short video, "Home Is Where the Music Is," this program explores at-home music making on the viol in 17th and 18th century Massachusetts through the musical experiences of local viol players, including Sudbury resident Rev. Edmund Browne (1606-1678). COVID Protocols for performance 1.) All audience members must provide proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 (vaccine card, photo, or photocopy accepted) at the door.
